Environmental Studies
Study the consequences of human actions on the natural landscape.
Our use of natural resources impacts the environment on a local, regional, and global scale. Study important issues directly related to the consequences of human action on the natural landscape, and gain insight and understanding of the policies and the history that led us to this point.
Your degree in Environmental Studies will provide you with a fundamental background in the sciences that are necessary to understand the environment as well as historical and political perspectives. You'll gain effective communication skills that allow you to find possible solutions to local or global problems. By focusing on biology, ecology, and government and economic policies, you will graduate ready to enter into a career with governmental agencies, the forestry service, or other environmental groups.
Florida Southern College has a Cooperative College 3-2 Program with Duke University
Students who are interested in pursuing a graduate degree in Environmental Studies can obtain a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in a total of five years. Students may also enroll in the FSC–Duke University Cooperative 3+2 program. Students successfully complete their first three years at FSC and are accepted into either the Master of Environmental Management or the Master of Forestry program. The student will be awarded the appropriate bachelor’s degree upon satisfactory completion of one year of study at Duke.
Students majoring in Environmental Studies can pursue either a Bachelor of Science (BS) or a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree at Florida Southern. Most of their Bachelor’s degree graduation requirements will be fulfilled in the three years a student spends at FSC. The remaining Bachelor’s degree requirements and the Master’s degree requirements will be fulfilled in the Duke University graduate program.

Top Reasons to Choose FSC Environmental Studies
Conference Opportunities
An important part of doing research is sharing your findings with the scientific community. Most recently, environmental studies students attended the Bahamas National Trust conference and the Association of Southeastern Biologists conference to share their results.
Collaborative Research
You’ll study and collaborate with faculty whose research interests include fire ecology, ecotoxicology, herpetology, science and religion, rose genetics, parasites, and paleoecology.
Outdoor Learning
Most of your environmental studies courses will have a strong outdoor component—you’ll experience environmental science by getting into the field to observe natural areas and collect data.
